This past Wednesday our friends went out of town and needed someone to watch their puppy Basil. (See picture below, and yes, I stole this picture from our friend's blog) As you can tell, she really is a cute pup and we have had a really good time with her. However, she is A LOT OF WORK! Most of this is probably due to the fact that Nate is immobile and Lyla is a little sick and I'm just a little spread thin. AND the fact that Basil is in her puppy stage and is very active so it has been a change from my quiet, calm little home to a crazy one. I don't know how my friend does it. She must be super-mom and can probably do pretty much do anything!
Anyway, we're not planning on getting a puppy or anything but I've got to be honest, this is making me a LITTLE nervous for when we have a second child. I know puppies and babies are two completely different things but still, I think both require a lot of time and effort. I really don't know which would be more difficult! Nate and I aren't planning on having another baby any time soon but when we do, I hope I'll be able to handle it all (and have a non-injured husband, haha!).
Anyway, like I said, we really have enjoyed having Basil here and it has been fun to have a puppy to play with. So, overall, good experience and good birth control :)

Kelly,
Don't even worry about a second kid at this point! I'm sure it sounds scary now because your daughter is still SO dependent on you and Nate. But as they get older they learn to be more on their own and you are able to accomplish more while still being a good mom. It gets easier in a lot of ways. Sure, the challenges are still there, but they are so different...more like tantrums, saying no and not listening.
I hope you're still friends with us when we get back! :) She is a piece of work. Enjoy passing her onto Leisl!
That is the cutest puppy I have ever seen. Oh. My. Gosh.
i totally feel the same way as you do! James wants a dog sooo bad but I don't think I can handle that, which makes me think how do people have multiple kids?!
What a cute puppy!! I must say, it makes me want one myself :) Don't worry, the babies come (usually) one at a time, they wear diapers, and they don't chew your shoes up. Also, they eventually grow up.
That is one CUTE puppy!! I think might cry if Jeff doesn't let me get one someday.
