skool iz kool

For the past what seems like FOREVER, Nate has been prepping to go back to school to get his MBA. Between studying for the GMAT and actual applications, he spent at least 100+ hours getting ready to apply. Worst. Process. Ever. It seriously was some of the worst months of our married lives. Anyhoo, over the past two weeks we heard from all the schools he applied to and found that his hard work paid off. So now we get to decide between these two schools...
vs.

Or as I like to look at it... North Carolina vs. Southern California :) Both are BEAUTIFUL places. Well, I've never been to NC but I've heard wonderful things. But there are so many benefits for BOTH schools that it is just going to be a really tough decision. All I know is that I am moving somewhere WARMER! Yesssss!

But in all seriousness, we just feel extremely blessed that he actually got into a school and even more so that we get a choice. We were pretty nervous. I'm proud of you N8r Sk8r! <3 ya!

We'll keep ya'll updated once we make our official decision.

I was voting for a Chicago school, but apparently my vote doesn't matter!! Whatever!!

Hey! Wow! For us it's between Penn, Vanderbilt and UCLA! And we feel the same way - blessed and excited to have a choice. We would've loved Duke too. Good luck!

I'm so proud of Nate! What a genius. And you already know my vote. And you'll be close to the temple and it is beautiful in NC.

Haha, Betsy, you do know that UCLA is like 5 minutes from the L.A. Temple, right? ANd if we lived near my family, we'd have like 3 temples all within an hour of us :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! We're so happy for you guys.
I'm guessing Nate prefers Duke and YOU prefer UCLA. Having a husband go through MBA school, I'm very biased. I think you'd be better off at UCLA, because you'll have family support while Nate disappears for two years, and I'm also guessing that you can keep your costs lower at UCLA. We're still paying back student loans, so I take the debt part of school VERY seriously.

Good luck! I'm sure you guys will figure out what's best for your family. And Congrats again!

NC is our dream state to live in. Hopefully we'll get back there sooner rather than later. Congrats! You have a tough choice ahead of you. And I'm so jealous of a WARMER climate!!!

We love NC and of course would love to have you close!! But I'm just glad that you guys have options - that's a blessing!

Well, I would rather have you guys here in California.

With that said. I think that between those two schools there really isn't much of a comparison. I think that Duke carries much more clout than UCLA and that would help Nate be more competitive for jobs in the future. I think that this is a no-brainer. Another thing to look at is the cost. You are going to spend a lot of money at one and a lot of money at the other. If there is an overall cost difference of let's say $30,000, well that isn't really that much money when you are trying to pay it off over several years. So Nate can either pay it all off in 1 year or in 1 year and 2 months for the more expensive school. Let's face it, he's going to be making bank in the end (and probably more bank with a Duke MBA behind his name). My choice, if it were mine, would be Duke even though I would rather have you close. Love you and good luck deciding.
